Sideline cheer tryouts are coming up for the 2026–2027 season, giving students the chance to join a spirited program that supports school pride at games. Tryout packets are available now in Room 3 and must be turned in by February 13.
Tryouts will take place on February 18, 19, and 20, and athletes must meet academic eligibility and wear athletic clothing and shoes. Incoming freshmen can also apply, with applications available at both junior high schools through the front office.
Head coach Gabriela Andrada shared that character and mindset are just as important as ability when selecting new cheerleaders. “I look for athletes who are coachable, committed, and accountable, and effort, attitude, and teamwork matter just as much as skill,” Andrada said.
This year’s sideline cheer team will focus on clean performances and consistency throughout games. Strong basics and the ability to stay focused are key parts of being successful on the sidelines.
“Strong fundamentals, clean motions, sharp timing, and stamina are most important,” Andrada said. “Being able to stay focused and perform consistently is key for sideline cheer.”
Practices are designed to challenge athletes while also creating a supportive team environment. The program emphasizes growth, accountability, and daily improvement.
“I keep expectations clear and hold everyone accountable while still making practice a place where athletes feel supported,” Andrada said. “We push each other, fix mistakes, and focus on getting better every day.”
The upcoming season is expected to bring energy and unity as the team represents the school. Sideline cheer is separate from the stunt program, allowing athletes to focus on game-day performance and school spirit.
“Show effort, stay confident, and be coachable,” Andrada said. “You don’t have to know everything, but you have to be willing to learn and work hard.”
Students ready to bring energy and school spirit to game days are encouraged to try out. Sideline cheer is a chance to grow, lead, and be part of something bigger.
