Raul Diaz’s life as a student-athlete is defined by discipline, balance, and determination.
Each day begins around 7:00 a.m. with 15 minutes of stretching to prepare his body. “Stretching helps me feel ready for the day and keeps me from getting injured,” Diaz said.
He follows this with rehydration before leaving for school at 8:00 a.m. Breakfast usually comes during a school break, which he considers essential fuel. “If I don’t eat, I feel it later in practice,” Diaz explained.
After classes end, Diaz heads home to eat and rest, giving his body time to recover before afternoon training. Track practice starts at 4:15 p.m., where he pushes himself through demanding workouts. “Practice is where I test my limits,” Diaz said. “It’s not always easy, but I know it’s making me better.”
Once practice is over, he refuels with carbohydrates to help his muscles recover before heading to the gym for additional strength training. “I like getting extra work in because it gives me an edge,” he added.
Evenings are focused on recovery and responsibility. Diaz showers, eats dinner, and rehydrates before sitting down to complete his schoolwork. Balancing athletics and academics isn’t always simple, but he stays motivated. “School comes first,” Diaz said. “Track is important to me, but my education matters just as much.”
Through dedication, smart time management, and a strong work ethic, Diaz continues to represent what it truly means to be a committed student-athlete who remains driven, focused, and determined to succeed both on and off the track.
